Major themes
Living Holiness in Suffering
Peter urges scattered believers, sanctified through Christ's precious blood, to maintain holy lives amid suffering, for this is God's will (1:13-16, 5:6-12).
How it points to Christ
1 Peter magnifies Christ's death, resurrection, glory, and return. He is the unblemished lamb (1:19); by His wounds we are healed (2:24); He has gone into heaven at God's right hand (3:22); and He will return to reveal salvation (1:7, 5:4). Christ is the supreme model and anchor of endurance and hope in every trial.

Questions for reflection
- ·When facing unjust suffering, do I truly believe it is permitted by God to refine my faith as gold (1:7)?
- ·Am I ridding myself of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander (2:1), longing for the pure spiritual milk of the word?
- ·Do my words and deeds among outsiders truly cause them to glorify God because of my good conduct (2:12)?
- ·Do I arm myself with the same attitude Christ suffered (4:1), rather than only seeking escape from pain?
- ·Am I casting all my anxiety on Him, because He cares for me (5:7), and humbly submitting so God may exalt me in His time?
