Life & Story
Elijah spoke for the Lord in the days of King Ahab, prophesied drought, and was sustained through the widow of Zarephath (1 Kgs 17). On Mount Carmel he confronted the prophets of Baal and fire fell from heaven (1 Kgs 18). He heard the 'still small voice' at Horeb (1 Kgs 19) and was taken up in a whirlwind (2 Kgs 2). Jewish tradition expects his return (Mal 4:5–6), and the New Testament sees him as a type of the forerunner (Matt 17).
