2.너희만 참으로 백성이로구나 너희가 죽으면 지혜도 죽겠구나No doubt but ye are the people, And wisdom shall die with you.
3.나도 너희 같이 생각이 있어 너희만 못하지 아니하니 그같은 일을 누가 알지 못하겠느냐But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
4.하나님께 불러 아뢰어 들으심을 입은 내가 이웃에게 웃음거리가 되었으니 의롭고 온전한 자가 조롱거리가 되었구나I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbor, I who called upon God, and he answered: The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock.
5.평안한 자의 마음은 재앙을 멸시하나 재앙이 실족하는 자를 기다리는구나In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; It is ready for them whose foot slippeth.
6.강도의 장막은 형통하고 하나님을 진노하게 하는 자는 평안하니 하나님이 그의 손에 후히 주심이니라The tents of robbers prosper, And they that provoke God are secure; Into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
7.이제 모든 짐승에게 물어 보라 그것들이 네게 가르치리라 공중의 새에게 물어 보라 그것들이 또한 네게 말하리라But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell thee:
8.땅에게 말하라 네게 가르치리라 바다의 고기도 네게 설명하리라Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
9.이것들 중에 어느 것이 여호와의 손이 이를 행하신 줄을 알지 못하랴Who knoweth not in all these, That the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this,
10.모든 생물의 생명과 모든 사람의 육신의 목숨이 다 그의 손에 있느니라In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?
11.입이 음식의 맛을 구별함 같이 귀가 말을 분간하지 아니하느냐Doth not the ear try words, Even as the palate tasteth its food?
12.늙은 자에게는 지혜가 있고 장수하는 자에게는 명철이 있느니라With aged men is wisdom, And in length of days understanding.
13.지혜와 권능이 하나님께 있고 계략과 명철도 그에게 속하였나니With God is wisdom and might; He hath counsel and understanding.
14.그가 헐으신즉 다시 세울 수 없고 사람을 가두신즉 놓아주지 못하느니라Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again; He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
15.그가 물을 막으신즉 곧 마르고 물을 보내신즉 곧 땅을 뒤집나니Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up; Again, he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
16.능력과 지혜가 그에게 있고 속은 자와 속이는 자가 다 그에게 속하였으므로With him is strength and wisdom; The deceived and the deceiver are his.
17.모사를 벌거벗겨 끌어 가시며 재판장을 어리석은 자가 되게 하시며He leadeth counsellors away stripped, And judges maketh he fools.
18.왕들이 맨 것을 풀어 그들의 허리를 동이시며He looseth the bond of kings, And he bindeth their loins with a girdle.
19.제사장들을 벌거벗겨 끌어 가시고 권력이 있는 자를 넘어뜨리시며He leadeth priests away stripped, And overthroweth the mighty.
20.충성된 사람들의 말을 물리치시며 늙은 자들의 판단을 빼앗으시며He removeth the speech of the trusty, And taketh away the understanding of the elders.
21.귀인들에게 멸시를 쏟으시며 강한 자의 띠를 푸시며He poureth contempt upon princes, And looseth the belt of the strong.
22.어두운 가운데에서 은밀한 것을 드러내시며 죽음의 그늘을 광명한 데로 나오게 하시며He uncovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
23.민족들을 커지게도 하시고 다시 멸하기도 하시며 민족들을 널리 퍼지게도 하시고 다시 끌려가게도 하시며He increaseth the nations, and he destroyeth them: He enlargeth the nations, and he leadeth them captive.
24.만민의 우두머리들의 총명을 빼앗으시고 그들을 길 없는 거친 들에서 방황하게 하시며He taketh away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
25.빛 없이 캄캄한 데를 더듬게 하시며 취한 사람 같이 비틀거리게 하시느니라They grope in the dark without light; And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
