  1. 1.对财富的正确态度 忧思财富令人形容憔悴,焦虑金钱使人难以安眠。Right Attitude toward Riches Wakefulness over wealth wastes away one’s flesh, and anxiety about it removes sleep.
  2. 2.清醒的忧虑阻止睡眠,重大的疾病夺去安眠。Wakeful anxiety prevents slumber, and a severe illness carries off sleep.
  3. 3.富人为积蓄财富而劳碌,安歇时便以珍馐美味自饱。The rich man toils as his wealth accumulates, and when he rests he fills himself with his dainties.
  4. 4.穷苦的人劳碌不已,生计却日益减少;当他稍事安歇,便又陷入困乏。The poor man toils as his livelihood diminishes, and when he rests he becomes needy.
  5. 5.贪爱金子的人不能称义,追逐钱财的人必被它引入迷途。He who loves gold will not be justified, and he who pursues money will be led astray by it.
  6. 6.许多人因黄金而败亡,毁灭迎面降临在他们身上。Many have come to ruin because of gold, and their destruction has met them face to face.
  7. 7.它对专爱它的人是绊脚石,凡愚昧人都必被它掳去。It is a stumbling block to those who are devoted to it, and every fool will be taken captive by it.
  8. 8.那富足之人无可指摘,不贪慕黄金,是有福的。Blessed is the rich man who is found blameless, and who does not go after gold.
  9. 9.他是谁呢?我们必称他为有福,因为他在他百姓中行了奇妙的事。Who is he? And we will call him blessed, for he has done wonderful things among his people.
  10. 10.有谁受过它的考验,而被证明是完全人?让他以此作为夸耀的依据吧。有谁有能力违犯,却没有违犯;有能力作恶,却没有作恶?Who has been tested by it and been found perfect? Let it be for him a ground for boasting. Who has had the power to transgress and did not transgress, and to do evil and did not do it?
  11. 11.他的兴盛必得确立,会众将传述他的仁慈作为。His prosperity will be established, and the assembly will relate his acts of charity.
  12. 12.同席之礼 你若坐在大人物的席前, 不要贪恋席上的佳肴, 也不要说:"这桌上真是丰盛极了!"Table Etiquette Are you seated at the table of a great man? Do not be greedy at it, and do not say, “There is certainly much upon it!”
  13. 13.要记住,贪欲的眼睛是邪恶的。有什么比眼睛更贪婪呢?因此它从每张脸上流出泪水。Remember that a greedy eye is a bad thing. What has been created more greedy than the eye? Therefore it sheds tears from every face.
  14. 14.不要见菜就伸手,也不要在盘中与邻座相挤。Do not reach out your hand for everything you see, and do not crowd your neighbor at the dish.
  15. 15.以自己的感受来衡量邻人的感受,在任何事上都要深思熟虑。Judge your neighbor’s feelings by your own, and in every matter be thoughtful.
  16. 16.你面前摆设的食物,应当像人一样去吃,不要贪食咀嚼,免得被人憎恨。Eat like a human being what is set before you, and do not chew greedily, lest you be hated.
  17. 17.为了礼节,应当率先停止饮食,且不可贪得无厌,以免冒犯他人。Be the first to stop eating, for the sake of good manners, and do not be insatiable, lest you give offense.
  18. 18.若与众人同席,勿争先伸手。If you are seated among many persons, do not reach out your hand before they do.
  19. 19.对于自律之人而言,少许便已充足!他安卧于床榻,不作沉重之息。How ample a little is for a well-disciplined man! He does not breathe heavily upon his bed.
  20. 20.健康的睡眠源于饮食有节;清晨早起,精神爽健。贪食之人则饱受失眠、恶心与腹痛之苦。Healthy sleep depends on moderate eating; he rises early, and feels fit. The distress of sleeplessness and of nausea and colic are with the glutton.
  21. 21.你若吃得过饱,就在饭席中间起身,你必得舒畅。If you are overstuffed with food, get up in the middle of the meal, and you will have relief.
  22. 22.我的孩子啊,你要听从我,不要轻视我,你终必领悟我的话。你所办的一切事都要勤奋努力,这样疾病就不会追上你。Listen to me, my son, and do not disregard me, and in the end you will appreciate my words. In all your work be industrious, and no sickness will overtake you.
  23. 23.乐善好施者必受称赞,诚信见证其美德。Men will praise the one who is liberal with food, and their testimony to his excellence is trustworthy.
  24. 24.城中将有人控告那吝啬食物的人,众人对他的吝啬所作的见证是确实的。The city will complain of the one who is niggardly with food, and their testimony to his niggardliness is accurate.
  25. 25.饮酒要有节制 不要逞强于饮酒,因为酒已经毁坏了许多人。Temperance in Drinking Wine Do not aim to be valiant over wine, for wine has destroyed many.
  26. 26.火与水能试炼钢铁的质地,酒在傲慢者的争竞中考验人心。Fire and water prove the temper of steel, so wine tests hearts in the strife of the proud.
  27. 27.酒若适量而饮,对人犹如生命。无酒之人,何以为生?酒乃为使人欢乐而造。Wine is like life to men, if you drink it in moderation. What is life to a man who is without wine? It has been created to make men glad.
  28. 28.适时适度而饮之酒,乃心中之喜乐,灵魂之欢愉。Wine drunk in season and temperately is rejoicing of heart and gladness of soul.
  29. 29.饮酒过量,必致心灵愁苦,惹气伤身,屡遭跌仆。Wine drunk to excess is bitterness of soul, with provocation and stumbling.
  30. 30.醉酒增添愚人的怒气,使其自招祸患,削减他的力量,并加上创伤。Drunkenness increases the anger of a fool to his injury, reducing his strength and adding wounds.
  31. 31.不要在酒宴上责备你的邻舍,也不要在他欢乐时轻视他;不要对他说羞辱的话,也不要因向他强求而使他愁苦。Do not reprove your neighbor at a banquet of wine, and do not despise him in his merrymaking; speak no word of reproach to him, and do not afflict him by making demands of him.
