1.约帕和雅米尼亚发生的事件 双方达成协议后,吕西亚回到王那里,犹太人开始耕种土地。Incidents at Joppa and Jamnia When this agreement had been reached, Lys′ias returned to the king, and the Jews went about their farming.
2.但有些地方的督守,如提摩太和基拿乌的儿子亚波罗尼乌,以及耶罗尼姆和德莫丰,另外还有管辖塞浦路斯的督守尼卡诺,他们不让他们安静平和地生活。But some of the governors in various places, Timothy and Apollo′nius the son of Gennae′us, as well as Hiero′nymus and De′mophon, and in addition to these Nica′nor the governor of Cyprus, would not let them live quietly and in peace.
3.约帕的有些人竟做了这样不虔诚的事:他们邀请与他们同住的犹太人连同妻子和孩子一起登上他们准备好的船,只是假装对犹太人没有恶意;And some men of Joppa did so ungodly a deed as this: they invited the Jews who lived among them to embark, with their wives and children, on boats which they had provided, as though there were no ill will to the Jews;

9.他在夜间袭击了雅姆尼亚的人,放火烧了港口和舰队,以至于光芒从三十英里外的耶路撒冷就可以看到。he attacked the people of Jam′nia by night and set fire to the harbor and the fleet, so that the glow of the light was seen in Jerusalem, thirty miles distant.
10.基列战役 他们从那里出发走了超过一英里的路程,正要进军讨伐提摩太的时候,至少有五千名阿拉伯人和五百名骑兵攻击了他们。The Campaign in Gilead When they had gone more than a mile from there, on their march against Timothy, not less than five thousand Arabs with five hundred horsemen attacked them.

12.犹大以为他们在许多事上是有益的,就同意与他们和好;他们受了犹大的誓言,就回到自己的帐篷里。Judas, thinking that they might really be useful in many ways, agreed to make peace with them; and after receiving his pledges they departed to their tents.
13.他还袭击了一个叫卡斯平的城市,这个城市有坚固的地堡和城墙,里面居住着各种各样的外邦人。He also attacked a certain city which was strongly fortified with earthworks and walls, and inhabited by all sorts of Gentiles. Its name was Caspin.
14.那些在城内的人,依靠城墙的坚固和充足的粮食供应,对犹大和他的军队极为傲慢,辱骂他们,甚至说出亵渎神灵和不洁之言。And those who were within, relying on the strength of the walls and on their supply of provisions, behaved most insolently toward Judas and his men, railing at them and even blaspheming and saying unholy things.
15.但犹大和他的战士呼求宇宙的大主宰,祂在约书亚的时候,不用攻城锤和战争机器就推翻了耶利哥,于是他们猛烈地冲向城墙。But Judas and his men, calling upon the great Sovereign of the world, who without battering-rams or engines of war overthrew Jericho in the days of Joshua, rushed furiously upon the walls.
16.他们在上帝的旨意下攻占了这座城市,大肆杀戮,杀死的人数不计其数,以至于附近的湖泊,宽约四分之一英里,似乎都被血液淹没了。They took the city by the will of God, and slaughtered untold numbers, so that the adjoining lake, a quarter of a mile wide, appeared to be running over with blood.
17.犹大击败提摩太的军队 他们从那里出发,行了九十五英里,到了哈拉克,到了被称为图比亚尼的犹太人那里。Judas Defeats Timothy’s Army When they had gone ninety-five miles from there, they came to Charax, to the Jews who are called Toubia′ni.

20.但马加比将军分队列阵,设立队长,急速追赶提摩太,提摩太率领十二万步兵和二千五百骑兵。But Maccabe′us arranged his army in divisions, set men in command of the divisions, and hastened after Timothy, who had with him a hundred and twenty thousand infantry and two thousand five hundred cavalry.
21.提摩太得知犹大将要到来,就派人送走了妇女和孩子,以及行李,到一个叫做加尔乃的地方,因为那地方容易防守,所有的路又狭窄难以接近。When Timothy learned of the approach of Judas, he sent off the women and the children and also the baggage to a place called Car′naim; for that place was hard to besiege and difficult of access because of the narrowness of all the approaches.
22.但当犹大率领的第一队军兵出现时,敌人见到那位万物的主,就充满了恐惧和惊慌,他们纷纷逃跑,四散奔逃,这样他们常常被自己的战友伤害,甚至被自己的剑刺伤。But when Judas’ first division appeared, terror and fear came over the enemy at the manifestation to them of him who sees all things; and they rushed off in flight and were swept on, this way and that, so that often they were injured by their own men and pierced by the points of their swords.
23.犹大尽力追击,将罪人杀戮于剑下,消灭了他们约三万人。And Judas pressed the pursuit with the utmost vigor, putting the sinners to the sword, and destroyed as many as thirty thousand men.
24.提摩太自己落在了多西修和所西巴德以及他们手下的士兵手中。他用极大的狡猾请求他们让他安全离开,因为他抓住了他们大多数人的父母和一些人的兄弟,如果他们对他怎么样,他们的亲人就不会有好下场。Timothy himself fell into the hands of Dosith′eus and Sosip′ater and their men. With great guile he besought them to let him go in safety, because he held the parents of most of them and the brothers of some and no consideration would be shown them.
25.当他用许多话确认了他庄严的承诺,要让他们安全无恙地回去之后,他们就放他走了,这都是为了救他们的兄弟。And when with many words he had confirmed his solemn promise to restore them unharmed, they let him go, for the sake of saving their brethren.
26.犹大又赢得其他胜利 犹大率领军队进攻迦尔乃和亚他加提斯的庙宇,杀死二万五千人。Judas Wins Other Victories Then Judas marched against Car′naim and the temple of Atar′gatis, and slaughtered twenty-five thousand people.
27.在击败和毁灭这些之后,他也向以弗崙进军,以弗崙是一座设防的城市,利西亚与各国人民众多居住于此。壮健的年轻人站在墙前,奋力防御;那里有大量的战争机器和弹药。After the rout and destruction of these, he marched also against Ephron, a fortified city where Lys′ias dwelt with multitudes of people of all nationalities. Stalwart young men took their stand before the walls and made a vigorous defense; and great stores of war engines and missiles were there.
28.但犹太人呼求那位全能的主,他能打碎敌人的力量,他们就夺取了这座城,并杀死城内约二万五千人。But the Jews called upon the Sovereign who with power shatters the might of his enemies, and they got the city into their hands, and killed as many as twenty-five thousand of those who were within it.
29.从那里出发,他们急忙赶往斯基托波利斯,距离耶路撒冷七十五英里。Setting out from there, they hastened to Scythop′olis, which is seventy-five miles from Jerusalem.
30.但当住在那里的犹太人证明了斯基托波利斯的人对他们表示了善意,并在灾难时期对他们的仁慈对待时,But when the Jews who dwelt there bore witness to the good will which the people of Scythop′olis had shown them and their kind treatment of them in times of misfortune,

33.他率领三千名步兵和四百名骑兵出来。And he came out with three thousand infantry and four hundred cavalry.
34.当他们交战时,发生了几名犹太人倒下的事。When they joined battle, it happened that a few of the Jews fell.
35.但巴刻诺的部下多西修是一名骑兵,也是一名强壮的男子,他抓住了哥吉亚,紧握着他的外衣,想用蛮力把这个该死的人活捉,然而有一名色雷斯骑兵冲过来,砍断了多西修的胳膊,哥吉亚因此逃脱,到达了玛利萨。But a certain Dosith′eus, one of Bace′nor’s men, who was on horseback and was a strong man, caught hold of Gor′gias, and grasping his cloak was dragging him off by main strength, wishing to take the accursed man alive, when one of the Thracian horsemen bore down upon him and cut off his arm; so Gor′gias escaped and reached Mar′isa.
36.以斯拉和他的战士们已经战斗了很长时间,非常疲惫,犹大呼求主显现为他们的盟友和领袖,引导他们在战斗中。As Esdris and his men had been fighting for a long time and were weary, Judas called upon the Lord to show himself their ally and leader in the battle.

38.为战死者祈祷 犹大聚集他的军队,往亚杜兰城去。 当第七天即将来临时,他们按照习俗洁净自己,并在那里守安息日。Prayers for Those Killed in Battle Then Judas assembled his army and went to the city of Adul′lam. As the seventh day was coming on, they purified themselves according to the custom, and they kept the sabbath there.
39.在次日,犹大和他的军队出来收拾被杀的人的尸体,好让他们与祖先一起安葬在他们祖先的坟墓里。On the next day, as by that time it had become necessary, Judas and his men went to take up the bodies of the fallen and to bring them back to lie with their kinsmen in the sepulchres of their fathers.
40.他们在每一个死者的内衣下发现了雅姆尼亚偶像的圣符,这是法律禁止犹太人佩戴的。于是,大家都清楚了,这就是这些人倒下的原因。Then under the tunic of every one of the dead they found sacred tokens of the idols of Jam′nia, which the law forbids the Jews to wear. And it became clear to all that this was why these men had fallen.
41.于是,他们都称颂主的作为,称颂公义的审判者,他显露隐藏的事;So they all blessed the ways of the Lord, the righteous Judge, who reveals the things that are hidden;
42.他们转向祷告,恳求已经犯下的罪得以完全洗清。而高贵的犹大劝诫百姓保持无罪的状态,因为他们亲眼见到了那些跌倒的人因罪所发生的事情。and they turned to prayer, beseeching that the sin which had been committed might be wholly blotted out. And the noble Judas exhorted the people to keep themselves free from sin, for they had seen with their own eyes what had happened because of the sin of those who had fallen.
43.他又为每人收取两千块银子,送到耶路撒冷去,为他们献上赎罪祭。他这样做是很好的,很光荣的,表明他相信死人复活。He also took up a collection, man by man, to the amount of two thousand drachmas of silver, and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering. In doing this he acted very well and honorably, taking account of the resurrection.
44.如果他不指望那些死去的人会复活,那么为死人祈祷就是多余和愚蠢的。For if he were not expecting that those who had fallen would rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead.
45.但如果他是指那些在虔诚中安息的人所积蓄的光荣奖赏,那么这是一个神圣而虔诚的想法。因此他为死者赎罪,使他们从罪恶中得以解脱。But if he was looking to the splendid reward that is laid up for those who fall asleep in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Therefore he made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin.
