- 1.安提阿古七世的最后一次战役 大约在那时,安提阿古七世从波斯地区撤退下来,结果变得非常混乱。The Last Campaign of Antiochus Epiphanes About that time, as it happened, Anti′ochus had retreated in disorder from the region of Persia.

Therefore the people rushed to the rescue with arms, and Anti′ochus and his men were defeated, with the result that Anti′ochus was put to flight by the inhabitants and beat a shameful retreat.

But the judgment of heaven rode with him! For in his arrogance he said, “When I get there I will make Jerusalem a cemetery of Jews.”
- 5.但全能的主,以色列的神,却给他一个无法治愈和看不见的打击。他刚一说完话,就遭受了腹部剧痛,没有任何缓解,并且遭受了剧烈的内脏折磨——But the all-seeing Lord, the God of Israel, struck him an incurable and unseen blow. As soon as he ceased speaking he was seized with a pain in his bowels for which there was no relief and with sharp internal tortures—

And so it came about that he fell out of his chariot as it was rushing along, and the fall was so hard as to torture every limb of his body.

- 9.于是,不虔之人身体上爬满了蛆虫,他还活着的时候,就在痛苦和折磨中,身体的肉都烂掉了,因为他发出的臭味,整个军队都因他的腐烂而感到厌恶。And so the ungodly man’s body swarmed with worms, and while he was still living in anguish and pain, his flesh rotted away, and because of his stench the whole army felt revulsion at his decay.

- 14.他急于将圣城夷为平地并化为墓地,但现在却宣布它是自由的;that the holy city, which he was hastening to level to the ground and to make a cemetery, he was now declaring to be free;
- 15.以及那些他原本认为不配埋葬,而打算连同他们的孩子一起抛弃给野兽,任鸟儿啄食的犹太人,他将使他们所有人成为雅典的平等公民;and the Jews, whom he had not considered worth burying but had planned to throw out with their children to the beasts, for the birds to pick, he would make, all of them, equal to citizens of Athens;
- 16.他以前曾经掠夺过的圣所,他要用最好的祭物来装饰;圣器他要全部归还,并且要多多倍给;并且他要从自己的收入中提供祭祀的费用;and the holy sanctuary, which he had formerly plundered, he would adorn with the finest offerings; and the holy vessels he would give back, all of them, many times over; and the expenses incurred for the sacrifices he would provide from his own revenues;
- 17.并且除了这一切以外,他还要成为犹太人,并要游行于各处居住之地,宣扬神的权能。and in addition to all this he also would become a Jew and would visit every inhabited place to proclaim the power of God.
- 18.但当他所受的苦难毫无减轻,因为上帝的审判已经公正地降临到他身上时,他就完全失去了对自己的希望,并给犹太人写了一封信,信中以祈求的方式表达他的心意,内容如下:But when his sufferings did not in any way abate, for the judgment of God had justly come upon him, he gave up all hope for himself and wrote to the Jews the following letter, in the form of a supplication. This was its content:
- 19.安提阿古的信和死讯 “致他尊贵的犹太公民,安提阿古他们的王和将军送上衷心的问候和祝愿他们健康和繁荣。Antiochus’s Letter and Death “To his worthy Jewish citizens, Anti′ochus their king and general sends hearty greetings and good wishes for their health and prosperity.
- 20.如果你和你的孩子都好,并且你的事务都按照你的心意,我很高兴。因为我的希望在天上,If you and your children are well and your affairs are as you wish, I am glad. As my hope is in heaven,
- 21.我怀着深情回忆你们的敬爱和善意。在我从波斯地区返回的途中,我遭受了一场令人烦恼的疾病,我认为有必要为所有人的安全着想。I remember with affection your esteem and good will. On my way back from the region of Persia I suffered an annoying illness, and I have deemed it necessary to take thought for the general security of all.
- 22.我对自己的情况并不绝望,因为我有很大的希望能够从我的疾病中康复,I do not despair of my condition, for I have good hope of recovering from my illness,
- 23.但我观察到我父亲在他出征上国的时候,会指定他的继承人,but I observed that my father, on the occasions when he made expeditions into the upper country, appointed his successor,
- 24.这样,如果发生任何意外事件或传来任何不愉快的消息,整个王国的人就不会感到烦恼,因为他们知道国家大事交给了谁。so that, if anything unexpected happened or any unwelcome news came, the people throughout the realm would not be troubled, for they would know to whom the government was left.
- 25.此外,我知道与我王国接壤的诸侯和邻近的王国都在等待时机,观察事态的发展。因此,我任命我的儿子安提阿古为王,我曾多次把他托付给你们许多人,当我急忙去上省的时候;我也把这里所写的内容写信告诉了他。Moreover, I understand how the princes along the borders and the neighbors to my kingdom keep watching for opportunities and waiting to see what will happen. So I have appointed my son Anti′ochus to be king, whom I have often entrusted and commended to most of you when I hastened off to the upper provinces; and I have written to him what is written here.
- 26.因此,我恳求并请求你们,记住你们曾经接受的公私服务,并保持你们现在对我和我的儿子所持有的美好感情。I therefore urge and beseech you to remember the public and private services rendered to you and to maintain your present good will, each of you, toward me and my son.
- 27.因为我相信他会遵循我的方针,并会以温和和仁慈对待你们。For I am sure that he will follow my policy and will treat you with moderation and kindness.”
- 28.因此,这个凶手和亵渎神的人,忍受了最剧烈的痛苦,就像他曾经给别人带来的那样,最终在异乡的山中以最可悲的结局结束了他的生命。So the murderer and blasphemer, having endured the most intense suffering, such as he had inflicted on others, came to the end of his life by a most pitiable fate, among the mountains in a strange land.
- 29.腓力是他的一个侍臣,将他的尸体带回家,后来因害怕安提阿古的儿子,逃到埃及的托勒密·菲洛米托那里。And Philip, one of his courtiers, took his body home; then, fearing the son of Anti′ochus, he betook himself to Ptol′emy Philome′tor in Egypt.
