1.Aconteció en aquellos días, que se promulgó un edicto de parte de Augusto César, que todo el mundo fuese empadronado.Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled.
2.Este primer censo se hizo siendo Cirenio gobernador de Siria.This was the first enrolment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3.E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno a su ciudad.And all went to enrol themselves, every one to his own city.
4.Y José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
5.para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba encinta.to enrol himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child.
6.Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento.And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered.
7.Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y lo envolvió en pañales, y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8.Había pastores en la misma región, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su rebaño.And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
9.Y he aquí, se les presentó un ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10.Pero el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people:
11.que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
12.Esto os servirá de señal: Hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, acostado en un pesebre.And this is the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.
13.Y repentinamente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales, que alababan a Dios, y decían:And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14.¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, Y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.
15.Sucedió que cuando los ángeles su fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: Pasemos, pues, hasta Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, y que el Señor nos ha manifestado.And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16.Vinieron, pues, apresuradamente, y hallaron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.
17.Y al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.And when they saw it, they made known concerning the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
18.Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.And all that heard it wondered at the things which were spoken unto them by the shepherds.
19.Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón.But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20.Y volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como se les había dicho.And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken unto them.
21.Cumplidos los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, le pusieron por nombre JESÚS, el cual le había sido puesto por el ángel antes que fuese concebido.And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called JESUS, which was so called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22.Y cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, conforme a la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarle al SeñorAnd when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord
23.(como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz será llamado santo al Señor),(as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),
24.y para ofrecer conforme a lo que se dice en la ley del Señor: Un par de tórtolas, o dos palominos.and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25.Y he aquí había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y piadoso, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26.Y le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Ungido del Señor.And it had been revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27.Y movido por el Espíritu, vino al templo. Y cuando los padres del niño Jesús lo trajeron al templo, para hacer por él conforme al rito de la ley,And he came in the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do concerning him after the custom of the law,
28.él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29.Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz, Conforme a tu palabra;Now lettest thou thy servant depart, Lord, According to thy word, in peace;
30.Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31.La cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos;Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;
32.Luz para revelación a los gentiles, Y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.A light for revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel.
33.Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de todo lo que se decía de él.And his father and his mother were marvelling at the things which were spoken concerning him;
34.Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo a su madre María: He aquí, éste está puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y para señal que será contradichaand Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against;
35.(y una espada traspasará tu misma alma), para que sean revelados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.
36.Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad muy avanzada, pues había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad,And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37.y era viuda hacía ochenta y cuatro años; y no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.and she had been a widow even unto fourscore and four years), who departed not from the temple, worshipping with fastings and supplications night and day.
38.Esta, presentándose en la misma hora, daba gracias a Dios, y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalén.And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks unto God, and spake of him to all them that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
39.Después de haber cumplido con todo lo prescrito en la ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.And when they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40.Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía, y se llenaba de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.And the child grew, and waxed strong, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41.Iban sus padres todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la pascua;And his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
42.y cuando tuvo doce años, subieron a Jerusalén conforme a la costumbre de la fiesta.And when he was twelve years old, they went up after the custom of the feast;
43.Al regresar ellos, acabada la fiesta, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin que lo supiesen José y su madre.and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not;
44.Y pensando que estaba entre la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y los conocidos;but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day's journey; and they sought for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance:
45.pero como no le hallaron, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándole.and when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking for him.
46.Y aconteció que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores de la ley, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions:
47.Y todos los que le oían, se maravillaban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas.and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48.Cuando le vieron, se sorprendieron; y le dijo su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con angustia.And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I sought thee sorrowing.
49.Entonces él les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me es necesario estar?And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be in my Father's house?
50.Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51.Y descendió con ellos, y volvió a Nazaret, y estaba sujeto a ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and he was subject unto them: and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52.Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría y en estatura, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
