1.내 아들아 내 말을 지키며 내 계명을 간직하라My son, keep my words, And lay up my commandments with thee.
2.내 계명을 지켜 살며 내 법을 네 눈동자처럼 지키라Keep my commandments and live; And my law as the apple of thine eye.
3.이것을 네 손가락에 매며 이것을 네 마음판에 새기라Bind them upon thy fingers; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart.
4.지혜에게 너는 내 누이라 하며 명철에게 너는 내 친족이라 하라Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; And call understanding thy kinswoman:
5.그리하면 이것이 너를 지켜서 음녀에게, 말로 호리는 이방 여인에게 빠지지 않게 하리라That they may keep thee from the strange woman, From the foreigner that flattereth with her words.
6.내가 내 집 들창으로, 살창으로 내다 보다가For at the window of my house I looked forth through my lattice;
7.어리석은 자 중에, 젊은이 가운데에 한 지혜 없는 자를 보았노라And I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding,
8.그가 거리를 지나 음녀의 골목 모퉁이로 가까이 하여 그의 집쪽으로 가는데Passing through the street near her corner; And he went the way to her house,
9.저물 때, 황혼 때, 깊은 밤 흑암 중에라In the twilight, in the evening of the day, In the middle of the night and in the darkness.
10.그 때에 기생의 옷을 입은 간교한 여인이 그를 맞으니And, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart.
11.이 여인은 떠들며 완악하며 그의 발이 집에 머물지 아니하여(She is clamorous and wilful; Her feet abide not in her house:
12.어떤 때에는 거리, 어떤 때에는 광장 또 모퉁이마다 서서 사람을 기다리는 자라Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places, And lieth in wait at every corner.)
13.그 여인이 그를 붙잡고 그에게 입맞추며 부끄러움을 모르는 얼굴로 그에게 말하되So she caught him, and kissed him, And with an impudent face she said unto him:
14.내가 화목제를 드려 서원한 것을 오늘 갚았노라Sacrifices of peace-offerings are with me; This day have I paid my vows.
15.이러므로 내가 너를 맞으려고 나와 네 얼굴을 찾다가 너를 만났도다Therefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16.내 침상에는 요와 애굽의 무늬 있는 이불을 폈고I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, With striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
17.몰약과 침향과 계피를 뿌렸노라I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18.오라 우리가 아침까지 흡족하게 서로 사랑하며 사랑함으로 희락하자Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; Let us solace ourselves with loves.
19.남편은 집을 떠나 먼 길을 갔는데For the man is not at home; He is gone a long journey:
20.은 주머니를 가졌은즉 보름 날에나 집에 돌아오리라 하여He hath taken a bag of money with him; He will come home at the full moon.
21.여러 가지 고운 말로 유혹하며 입술의 호리는 말로 꾀므로With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield; With the flattering of her lips she forceth him along.
22.젊은이가 곧 그를 따랐으니 소가 도수장으로 가는 것 같고 미련한 자가 벌을 받으려고 쇠사슬에 매이러 가는 것과 같도다He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;
23.필경은 화살이 그 간을 뚫게 되리라 새가 빨리 그물로 들어가되 그의 생명을 잃어버릴 줄을 알지 못함과 같으니라Till an arrow strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.
24.이제 아들들아 내 말을 듣고 내 입의 말에 주의하라Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And attend to the words of my mouth.
25.네 마음이 음녀의 길로 치우치지 말며 그 길에 미혹되지 말지어다Let not thy heart decline to her ways; Go not astray in her paths.
26.대저 그가 많은 사람을 상하여 엎드러지게 하였나니 그에게 죽은 자가 허다하니라For she hath cast down many wounded: Yea, all her slain are a mighty host.
27.그의 집은 스올의 길이라 사망의 방으로 내려가느니라Her house is the way to Sheol, Going down to the chambers of death.
