1.在地上所有的人都说同一种语言，用着相同的话。Everyone on earth had the same language and the same words.
2.他们从东方迁移的时候，来到示拿地的一个平原，就住在那里。And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3.他们彼此说：“来吧，我们要制砖并烧硬。”—砖代替了石头，石漆代替了灰泥。—They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them hard.”—Brick served them as stone, and bitumen served them as mortar.—
4.他们说：“来吧，我们要建一座城和一座塔，塔顶直达天空，为我们留下名声，否则我们会散居在全地。”And they said, “Come, let us build us a city, and a tower with its top in the sky, to make a name for ourselves; else we shall be scattered all over the world.”
5.上帝下来要看世人所建的城和塔，GOD came down to look at the city and tower that the mortals had built,
6.上帝说：“看哪，他们成为一个民，语言都是一样，现在他们开始做这件事，以后他们所要做的事就没有他们所不能做的了。and GOD said, “If, as one people with one language for all, this is how they have begun to act, then nothing that they may propose to do will be out of their reach.
7.我们下去，在那里混乱他们的语言，使他们彼此言语不通。Let us, then, go down and confound their speech there, so that they shall not understand one another’s speech.”
8.于是，上帝便将他们从那里散布到全地各方，他们就停止建造这座城。Thus GOD scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.
9.这是为什么那地方叫巴别，因为上帝在那里使全地的语言混乱，从那里上帝将他们散布在全地的各处。That is why it was called Babel, because there GOD confounded “confound,” play on “Babel.” the speech of the whole earth; and from there GOD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
10.这是闪的后代记载。洪水之后两年，闪一百岁的时候生了亚勒法沙。This is the line of Shem. Shem was 100 years old when he begot Arpachshad, two years after the Flood.
11.亚法撒生后，闪又活了五百年，并且生了儿子和女儿。After the birth of Arpachshad, Shem lived 500 years and begot sons and daughters.
12.亚勒法沙在三十五岁的时候生了谢拉。When Arpachshad had lived 35 years, he begot Shelah.
13.示拉出生以后，亚法撒生了四百零三年，又生了众子众女。After the birth of Shelah, Arpachshad lived 403 years and begot sons and daughters.
14.示拉活到三十岁，生了以伯。When Shelah had lived 30 years, he begot Eber.
15.以伯生后，谢拉又活了403年，并且生了众子众女。After the birth of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and begot sons and daughters.
16.以伯活到三十四岁，生了法勒。When Eber had lived 34 years, he begot Peleg.
17.比勒生后，希伯又活了四百三十年，并且生了许多儿女。After the birth of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and begot sons and daughters.
18.比勒格活到三十岁的时候，生了列乌。When Peleg had lived 30 years, he begot Reu.
19.路乙生后，法勒又活了二百零九年，并且生了众子众女。After the birth of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and begot sons and daughters.
20.路乙活到三十二岁，生了瑟勒。When Reu had lived 32 years, he begot Serug.
21.塞鲁生后，勒乌又活了二百零七年，并且生了儿子和女儿。After the birth of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and begot sons and daughters.
22.塞鲁格活到三十岁的时候，生了拿鹤。When Serug had lived 30 years, he begot Nahor.
23.拿鹤生后，塞鲁格又活了二百年，并且生了儿子和女儿。After the birth of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and begot sons and daughters.
24.拿鹤活到二十九岁的时候，生了特拉。When Nahor had lived 29 years, he begot Terah.
25.特拉生后，拿鹤又活了119年，并且生了儿子和女儿。After the birth of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and begot sons and daughters.
26.特拉70岁的时候，生了亚伯兰、拿鹤和哈兰。When Terah had lived 70 years, he begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27.现在泰勒的后代记载如下：泰勒生了亚伯兰、拿鹤和哈兰，哈兰又生了罗得。Now this is the line of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
28.哈兰死在他父亲他拉的有生之年，他死在他的故乡，迦勒底的吾珥。Haran died in the lifetime of his father Terah, in his native land, Ur of the Chaldeans.
29.亚伯兰和拿鹤各为自己娶了妻子，亚伯兰的妻子名叫撒莱，拿鹤的妻子名叫米勒加，是哈兰的女儿，也是米勒加和以斯该的父亲。Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves, the name of Abram’s wife being Sarai and that of Nahor’s wife Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah.
30.撒莱不能生育，没有孩子。Now Sarai was infertile, she had no child.
31.泰拉带着他的儿子亚伯拉罕，他的孙子罗得（哈兰的儿子），和他的媳妇撒莱（他儿子亚伯拉罕的妻子），他们一起从迦勒底的乌尔出发，往迦南地去，但当他们到了哈兰，就住在那里。Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and they set out together from Ur of the Chaldeans for the land of Canaan; but when they had come as far as Haran, they settled there.
32.特拉的年日共二百零五岁，特拉死在哈兰。The days of Terah came to 205 years; and Terah died in Haran.
