Life & Story
Peter (originally Simon), a Galilean fisherman, was called to become a 'fisher of people.' At Caesarea Philippi he confessed, 'You are the Christ,' and Jesus spoke of building the church on this rock (Matt 16). After denying Jesus three times, he was restored by Jesus' threefold question, 'Do you love me?' (John 21). His Pentecost sermon brought about three thousand baptisms (Acts 2); he led the early church and later wrote 1–2 Peter.
