这段经文的意思
Verses 53–54 contrast lacking life with possessing eternal life. The solemn repeated affirmation emphasizes that receiving Jesus is necessary, while the promise of resurrection at the last day shows that eternal life is both a present possession and a future completion.
Verse 55 presents Jesus’ flesh and blood as genuine food and drink. Within John’s discourse, eating and drinking function as vivid metaphors for receiving the life that Jesus gives, not merely as physical consumption.
Verse 56 describes the result as mutual abiding: the one who receives Jesus remains in him, and Jesus remains in that person. Eternal life is therefore expressed here as a life-giving, personal union with the Son of man.
背景
These verses continue Jesus’ teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum, following the crowd’s question about how he could give them his flesh to eat. They also continue the bread-of-life theme: Jesus is the living bread from heaven, given for the life of the world.
The surrounding passage moves from physical food to the food that endures to eternal life. John 6:63 later identifies Jesus’ words as spirit and life, clarifying the spiritual direction of the discourse, while many disciples respond that the saying is difficult.
常见问题
Is Jesus speaking literally about eating flesh and drinking blood?
The passage uses eating and drinking as forceful images of receiving Jesus. The immediate context frames Jesus as the bread of life, and John 6:63 describes his words as spirit and life, so the discourse is not presented as ordinary physical eating.
What does eternal life mean in this passage?
Eternal life is life received through union with Jesus. It is already possessed by those who come to him, and it is also oriented toward the final resurrection at the last day.
What is the relationship between eating Jesus and abiding in him?
Receiving Jesus is the means by which a person remains in him, and this relationship is reciprocal: the believer abides in Jesus, and Jesus abides in the believer.
