Asa

Asa was the third king of the kingdom of Judah, great-grandson of David, who reigned for forty-one years. He followed his ancestor David in doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord and carried out religious reforms, removing the high places and idolatrous worship.

Mordecai

Mordecai was a Benjamite Jew living in Susa whose faithfulness—most notably his refusal to bow to Haman—helped trigger the plot against the Jews; under God's providence he was exalted to become second only to King Ahasuerus, seeking the welfare (shalom) of his people and speaking peace to his kindred.

Israel's greatest king, a man after God's own heart and the principal author of the Psalms.

Jephthah

Jephthah was a mighty warrior of Gilead, born to a harlot, later appointed by the elders as judge and commander against the Ammonites; his rash vow led to the tragic fate of his only daughter.

Rehoboam

Rehoboam, son of Solomon and the first king of the southern kingdom of Judah. He was acclaimed by all Israel at Shechem, but rejected the counsel of the elders, embraced the harsh advice of his young companions, and thereby caused the division of the united monarchy into the northern and southern kingdoms.

Jezebel

Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab of northern Israel, notorious for promoting Baal worship and persecuting the prophets of Yahweh, becoming the biblical archetype of wickedness and idolatry.

Priscilla was a distinguished woman in the early Church who, together with her husband Aquila, worked as a tentmaker and labored alongside Paul in various places, hosting the church and teaching the way of God more accurately.

Mark was a fellow worker in the early church, known because his mother Mary's home served as a gathering place for prayer among the believers in Jerusalem. He once traveled with Paul and Barnabas on a missionary journey and later became useful to Paul in ministry.

Herod the Great was the ruler of Judea at the time of Jesus' birth, reigning in Jerusalem when the Magi arrived seeking the newborn King; he ordered the slaughter of the male children in Bethlehem two years old and under.
