1.王住在自己宮中，耶和華使他安靖，不被四圍的仇敵擾亂。And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest from all his enemies round about,
2.那時，王對先知拿單說：看哪，我住在香柏木的宮中，　神的約櫃反在幔子裡。that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

4.當夜，耶和華的話臨到拿單說：And it came to pass the same night, that the word of Jehovah came unto Nathan, saying,
5.你去告訴我僕人大衛，說耶和華如此說：你豈可建造殿宇給我居住呢？Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?
6.自從我領以色列人出埃及直到今日，我未曾住過殿宇，常在會幕和帳幕中行走。for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
7.凡我同以色列人所走的地方，我何曾向以色列一支派的士師，就是我吩咐牧養我民以色列的說：你們為何不給我建造香柏木的殿宇呢？In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?
8.現在，你要告訴我僕人大衛，說萬軍之耶和華如此說：我從羊圈中將你召來，叫你不再跟從羊群，立你作我民以色列的君。Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel;
9.你無論往哪裡去，我常與你同在，剪除你的一切仇敵。我必使你得大名，好像世上大大有名的人一樣。and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.
10.我必為我民以色列選定一個地方，栽培他們，使他們住自己的地方，不再遷移；凶惡之子也不像從前擾害他們，And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first,
11.並不像我命士師治理我民以色列的時候一樣。我必使你安靖，不被一切仇敵擾亂，並且我 ─ 耶和華應許你，必為你建立家室。and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house.
12.你壽數滿足、與你列祖同睡的時候，我必使你的後裔接續你的位；我也必堅定他的國。When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13.他必為我的名建造殿宇；我必堅定他的國位，直到永遠。He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14.我要作他的父，他要作我的子；他若犯了罪，我必用人的杖責打他，用人的鞭責罰他。I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;
15.但我的慈愛仍不離開他，像離開在你面前所廢棄的掃羅一樣。but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16.你的家和你的國必在我（原文是你）面前永遠堅立。你的國位也必堅定，直到永遠。And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
17.拿單就按這一切話，照這默示，告訴大衛。According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
18.於是大衛王進去，坐在耶和華面前，說：主耶和華啊，我是誰？我的家算甚麼？你竟使我到這地步呢？Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?
19.主耶和華啊，這在你眼中還看為小，又應許你僕人的家至於久遠。主耶和華啊，這豈是人所常遇的事麼？And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of men, O Lord Jehovah!
20.主耶和華啊，我還有何言可以對你說呢？因為你知道你的僕人。And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord Jehovah.
21.你行這大事使僕人知道，是因你所應許的話，也是照你的心意。For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it.
22.主耶和華啊，你本為大，照我們耳中聽見，沒有可比你的；除你以外再無　神。Wherefore thou art great, O Jehovah God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
23.世上有何民能比你的民以色列呢？你從埃及救贖他們作自己的子民，又在你贖出來的民面前行大而可畏的事，驅逐列邦人和他們的　神，顯出你的大名。And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, whom thou redeemest to thee out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
24.你曾堅立你的民以色列作你的子民，直到永遠；你 ─ 耶和華也作了他們的　神。And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.
25.耶和華　神啊，你所應許僕人和僕人家的話，求你堅定，直到永遠；照你所說的而行。And now, O Jehovah God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.
26.願人永遠尊你的名為大，說：萬軍之耶和華是治理以色列的　神。這樣，你僕人大衛的家必在你面前堅立。And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee.
27.萬軍之耶和華 ─ 以色列的　神啊，因你啟示你的僕人說：我必為你建立家室，所以僕人大膽向你如此祈禱。For thou, O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
28.主耶和華啊，惟有你是　神。你的話是真實的；你也應許將這福氣賜給僕人。And now, O Lord Jehovah, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:
