1.安提阿古王的最后日子 安提阿古王巡行上省的时候,听说波斯的厄兰有座城,因积蓄的银子和金子而闻名于世。The Last Days of Antiochus Epiphanes King Anti′ochus was going through the upper provinces when he heard that Elyma′is in Persia was a city famed for its wealth in silver and gold.
2.它的神庙非常富有,里面有金盾、金甲和武器,这些都是亚历山大,即马其顿国王菲利普的儿子,他是第一个统治希腊人的国王,留在那里。Its temple was very rich, containing golden shields, breastplates, and weapons left there by Alexander, the son of Philip, the Macedonian king who first reigned over the Greeks.
3.于是他来试图攻取这城,夺取它的财物,但他不能,因为他的计谋被城里的人知道了So he came and tried to take the city and plunder it, but he could not, because his plan became known to the men of the city

5.后来有人从波斯来见他,报告说进入犹大地的军队已经被击败;Then some one came to him in Persia and reported that the armies which had gone into the land of Judah had been routed;
6.利西雅已经率领强大的军队先行,但在与犹太人交战时却转身逃跑,犹太人则因夺取了他们击败的军队的武器、补给和丰富的战利品而变得强大起来;that Lys′ias had gone first with a strong force, but had turned and fled before the Jews; that the Jews had grown strong from the arms, supplies, and abundant spoils which they had taken from the armies they had cut down;
7.他们拆除了他在耶路撒冷祭坛上所立的偶像,也如同以前一样用高墙围绕了圣所,并且也围绕了伯祖尔,他的城市。that they had torn down the abomination which he had erected upon the altar in Jerusalem; and that they had surrounded the sanctuary with high walls as before, and also Beth-zur, his city.
8.王听到了这消息,极其惊讶,十分震惊。他上床躺下,因忧伤而生病,因为事情的结果并不像他所计划的那样。When the king heard this news, he was astounded and badly shaken. He took to his bed and became sick from grief, because things had not turned out for him as he had planned.
9.他躺在那里很多天,因为深深的悲痛不断地折磨着他,他认为自己快要死了。He lay there for many days, because deep grief continually gripped him, and he concluded that he was dying.
10.于是他召集所有的朋友,对他们说:“我的眼睛失去了睡眠,我因烦恼而心情沉重。So he called all his friends and said to them, “Sleep departs from my eyes and I am downhearted with worry.
11.我心里想,‘我落到什么地步啊,竟陷入如此大的灾难之中!’因为我在位的时候,曾以仁慈待人,深受爱戴。I said to myself, ‘To what distress I have come! And into what a great flood I now am plunged! For I was kind and beloved in my power.’
12.但现在我记得我在耶路撒冷所做的恶事,我夺取了她所有的银器和金器,并且我无故派人去毁灭犹大的人。But now I remember the evils I did in Jerusalem. I seized all her vessels of silver and gold; and I sent to destroy the inhabitants of Judah without good reason.
13.我知道这就是我遭遇这些灾祸的原因;看哪,我在异乡因深深的悲痛而消亡。I know that it is because of this that these evils have come upon me; and behold, I am perishing of deep grief in a strange land.”
14.于是,他召唤他的一个朋友腓力,让他管理整个王国。Then he called for Philip, one of his friends, and made him ruler over all his kingdom.
15.他将王冠和王袍与印戒赐给他,使他能引导他的儿子安提阿古,并将他养育成王。He gave him the crown and his robe and the signet, that he might guide Anti′ochus his son and bring him up to be king.
16.于是安条克王就在一百四十九年那时死在那里。Thus Anti′ochus the king died there in the one hundred and forty-ninth year.
17.当利西亚得知王已经死了,就立王的儿子安提阿哥为王。利西亚从小抚养安提阿哥,并给他取名为厄帕托。And when Lys′ias learned that the king was dead, he set up Anti′ochus the king’s son to reign. Lys′ias had brought him up as a boy, and he named him Eu′pator.
18.叙利亚的再次攻击 现在城堡中的男人一直围困着以色列人,围绕圣所。他们正尽一切办法来伤害他们并加强外邦人。Renewed Attacks from Syria Now the men in the citadel kept hemming Israel in around the sanctuary. They were trying in every way to harm them and strengthen the Gentiles.
19.于是犹大决定要消灭他们,就聚集所有的人围攻他们。So Judas decided to destroy them, and assembled all the people to besiege them.
20.他们聚集在一起,在第一百五十年围攻要塞,他建造了攻城塔和其他战争机器。They gathered together and besieged the citadel in the one hundred and fiftieth year; and he built siege towers and other engines of war.
21.但守城的军队中有一部分人逃出了包围,有些不虔诚的以色列人也加入了他们。But some of the garrison escaped from the siege and some of the ungodly Israelites joined them.
22.他们去见王说,你还要到几时才为我们伸冤,替我们的弟兄报仇呢They went to the king and said, “How long will you fail to do justice and to avenge our brethren?
23.我们很高兴侍奉你们的父亲,按照他的话语生活,遵行他的命令。We were happy to serve your father, to live by what he said and to follow his commands.
24.因此,我们同胞的儿子围攻我们的要塞,与我们为敌,而且他们把我们抓到的尽都杀死,并且夺取了我们的产业。For this reason the sons of our people besieged the citadel and became hostile to us; moreover, they have put to death as many of us as they have caught, and they have seized our inheritances.
25.他们不仅是对我们伸手,而且也对他们周围所有的土地都伸手。And not against us alone have they stretched out their hands, but also against all the lands on their borders.
26.看哪,他们在今日已经在耶路撒冷的要塞安营,要攻取它,他们已经加固了圣所和伯撒尔;And behold, today they have encamped against the citadel in Jerusalem to take it; they have fortified both the sanctuary and Beth-zur;
27.如果你们不迅速阻止他们,他们就会做出更大的事情,你们也就无法阻止他们了。and unless you quickly prevent them, they will do still greater things, and you will not be able to stop them.”
28.国王听了这话就大怒,招聚所有的朝臣、军队的将领和掌权的人。The king was enraged when he heard this. He assembled all his friends, the commanders of his forces and those in authority.
29.他还从其他王国和海岛招募了雇佣军。And mercenary forces came to him from other kingdoms and from islands of the seas.
30.他的军队有十万步兵,两万骑兵和三十二头习惯于战争的大象。The number of his forces was a hundred thousand foot soldiers, twenty thousand horsemen, and thirty-two elephants accustomed to war.
31.他们经过以东,驻扎在伯利恒对面的伯叙尔,多日与犹太人交战,并制造攻城器械。但犹太人出击,将这些攻城器械用火烧毁,并奋勇杀敌。They came through Idume′a and encamped against Beth-zur, and for many days they fought and built engines of war; but the Jews sallied out and burned these with fire, and fought manfully.
32.伯斯加利亚战役 犹大离开要城,在伯斯加利亚安营,对面是王的军营。The Battle at Beth-zechariah Then Judas marched away from the citadel and encamped at Beth-zechari′ah, opposite the camp of the king.
33.清晨,王起床,带领军队强行军向伯泽甲里亚的路上前进,他的军队准备好战斗并吹响了号角。Early in the morning the king rose and took his army by a forced march along the road to Beth-zechari′ah, and his troops made ready for battle and sounded their trumpets.
34.他们给大象展示葡萄和桑树的汁液,以激发它们战斗的热情。They showed the elephants the juice of grapes and mulberries, to arouse them for battle.
35.他们将兽只分配到各个方阵中,每头大象配备一千名披着锁子甲、头戴青铜头盔的武士,并为每头兽只配备五百名精选的骑兵。And they distributed the beasts among the phalanxes; with each elephant they stationed a thousand men armed with coats of mail, and with brass helmets on their heads; and five hundred picked horsemen were assigned to each beast.
36.这些人事先站在兽的各处,兽往哪里去,他们就跟着往哪里去,从不离开它。These took their position beforehand wherever the beast was; wherever it went they went with it, and they never left it.
37.大象上装有坚固的木制塔楼,塔楼上有遮蔽物。这些塔楼用专门的马具固定在每头大象身上,每个塔楼上都有四名全副武装的士兵,他们从塔楼上战斗,还有大象的印度驾驶员。And upon the elephants were wooden towers, strong and covered; they were fastened upon each beast by special harness, and upon each were four armed men who fought from there, and also its Indian driver.
38.其余的骑兵分别驻扎在两翼,位于军队的两侧,既要骚扰敌人,又要受到方阵的保护。The rest of the horsemen were stationed on either side, on the two flanks of the army, to harass the enemy while being themselves protected by the phalanxes.
39.当阳光照在金子和黄铜的盾牌上时,山丘因它们而燃烧着,并像火炬一样闪耀。When the sun shone upon the shields of gold and brass, the hills were ablaze with them and gleamed like flaming torches.
40.现在,王的军队的一部分散布在高山上,有些军队在平原上,他们稳步推进,队形整齐。Now a part of the king’s army was spread out on the high hills, and some troops were on the plain, and they advanced steadily and in good order.
41.凡听见他们众多人发出的响声和他们行军的声音以及武器的撞击声的,都害怕颤抖,因为那军队极其庞大强盛。All who heard the noise made by their multitude, by the marching of the multitude and the clanking of their arms, trembled, for the army was very large and strong.
42.但犹大和他的军队向前推进,参加战斗,王军中倒下了六百人。But Judas and his army advanced to the battle, and six hundred men of the king’s army fell.
43.以利亚撒,也就是阿比拉,他看见其中一头兽身上装备着王的盔甲,比其他兽都高,以为王必是在这兽上。And Elea′zar, called Av′aran, saw that one of the beasts was equipped with royal armor. It was taller than all the others, and he supposed that the king was upon it.
44.于是他献出自己的生命来拯救自己的百姓,并为自己赢得了永恒的名声。So he gave his life to save his people and to win for himself an everlasting name.
45.他勇敢地冲入方阵的中心去夺取它,他左杀右砍,敌人在他两边让开。He courageously ran into the midst of the phalanx to reach it; he killed men right and left, and they parted before him on both sides.
46.他钻到大象下面,从下面刺杀大象,将大象杀死,但大象倒在地上,压在他身上,他就死在那里。He got under the elephant, stabbed it from beneath, and killed it; but it fell to the ground upon him and there he died.
47.犹太人看见王的威势和军队的猛烈攻势,就转身逃跑。And when the Jews saw the royal might and the fierce attack of the forces, they turned away in flight.
48.圣殿之围 王的军队士兵上到耶路撒冷与他们对抗,王在犹大和锡安山扎营。The Siege of the Temple The soldiers of the king’s army went up to Jerusalem against them, and the king encamped in Judea and at Mount Zion.
49.他与伯斯尔的人民讲和,他们就撤离了那座城,因为他们在那里没有足够的食物来抵御围攻,而且那一年是土地的安息年。He made peace with the men of Beth-zur, and they evacuated the city, because they had no provisions there to withstand a siege, since it was a sabbatical year for the land.
50.于是,王夺!了伯恙,派兵驻守,占据了这座城。So the king took Beth-zur and stationed a guard there to hold it.
51.他在圣所前驻扎了多日,设置攻城塔、战争机器抛掷火石、箭射机和投石机。Then he encamped before the sanctuary for many days. He set up siege towers, engines of war to throw fire and stones, machines to shoot arrows, and catapults.
52.犹太人也制造了与他们相匹配的战争机器,并且战斗了很多天。The Jews also made engines of war to match theirs, and fought for many days.
53.但他们没有储存的食物,因为这是第七年;从外邦人那里逃到犹大的人已经吃完了所有的储存。But they had no food in storage, because it was the seventh year; those who found safety in Judea from the Gentiles had consumed the last of the stores.
54.圣所中只剩下少数人,因为饥荒已经席卷了其他人,他们四散到各自的地方。Few men were left in the sanctuary, because famine had prevailed over the rest and they had been scattered, each to his own place.
55.叙利亚提出条件 那时里西亚听说,菲利普就是安提阿古王在世时任命来抚养他儿子小安提阿古继承王位的,Syria Offers Terms Then Lys′ias heard that Philip, whom King Anti′ochus while still living had appointed to bring up Anti′ochus his son to be king,
56.他已经从波斯和玛代带着跟随王的军队回来,并且他正试图夺取政府的控制权。had returned from Persia and Media with the forces that had gone with the king, and that he was trying to seize control of the government.
57.于是他迅速下令出发,对王、军队的将领和众人说,我们每天都在变弱,我们的食物供应很少,我们所对抗的地方很强固,国家的大事也紧急地压在我们身上。So he quickly gave orders to depart, and said to the king, to the commanders of the forces, and to the men, “We daily grow weaker, our food supply is scant, the place against which we are fighting is strong, and the affairs of the kingdom press urgently upon us.
58.现在我们要与这些人达成协议,与他们和他们的整个民族讲和,Now then let us come to terms with these men, and make peace with them and with all their nation,
59.并且同意让他们按照以前的方式遵守他们的法律;因为正是由于我们废除了他们的法律,他们才变得愤怒并做了所有这些事情。and agree to let them live by their laws as they did before; for it was on account of their laws which we abolished that they became angry and did all these things.”
60.国王和将领们都喜欢这篇讲话,他就派人向犹太人提出和平的建议,犹太人也接受了。The speech pleased the king and the commanders, and he sent to the Jews an offer of peace, and they accepted it.
61.于是,王和将军们向他们发誓,犹太人就按照这些条件撤退了堡垒。So the king and the commanders gave them their oath. On these conditions the Jews evacuated the stronghold.
62.但当王进入锡安山时,见这地方的城堡甚是坚固,他就违背了所许的誓,下令拆毁四周的城墙。But when the king entered Mount Zion and saw what a strong fortress the place was, he broke the oath he had sworn and gave orders to tear down the wall all around.
63.于是,他急忙离开,回到安提阿。他发现腓力控制了这座城市,但他与腓力交战,并强行夺取了这座城市。Then he departed with haste and returned to Antioch. He found Philip in control of the city, but he fought against him, and took the city by force.
