Daily Praise: Faith Rooted in God's Faithfulness
Psalm 145 summons the faithful to bless God daily — not because of circumstances, but because of who He is. Faith grows in the soil of daily attentiveness to His steadfast faithfulness.
A song of praise. Of David. א I will extol You, my God and sovereign, and bless Your name forever and ever. ב Every day will I bless Youand praise Your name forever and ever. ג Great is GOD and much acclaimed;such greatness cannot be fathomed. ד One generation shall laud Your works to anotherand declare Your mighty acts. ה The glorious majesty of Your splendorand Your wondrous acts will I recite. ו All shall talk of the might of Your awesome deeds, and I will recount Your greatness. ז They shall celebrate Your abundant goodness, and sing joyously of Your beneficence. ח GOD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. ט GOD is good to all,and divine mercy is upon all God’s works. י All Your works shall praise You, O ETERNAL One,and Your faithful ones shall bless You. כ They shall talk of the majesty of Your sovereignty, and speak of Your might, ל to make known to all humankind Your mighty actsand Your sovereignty’s majestic glory. מ Your rule is an eternal rule;Your dominion is for all generations. ס GOD supports all who stumble, and makes all who are bent stand straight. ע The eyes of all look to You expectantly, and You give them their food when it is due. פ You give it openhandedly, feeding every creature to its heart’s content. צ GOD is beneficent in all waysand faithful in all works. ק GOD is near to all who call,to all who call with sincerity. ר Fulfilling the wishes of those who show reverence,[God] hears their cry and delivers them. ש GOD watches over all who show their love, but all the wicked are destroyed. ת My mouth shall utter the praise of GOD,whose holy name all creatures shall bless forever and ever.
Psalm 145 is an alphabetic acrostic psalm (each verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew aleph-bet), framed by David's twin commitments: 'I will extol You' (v. 1) and 'My mouth shall utter the praise of GOD' (v. 21). It is the only psalm explicitly titled 'a song of praise' (tehillah), and its theology of God's daily faithfulness (chesed) anchors the devotional theme of faith and trust.
