为什么写这卷书
耶利米书写于犹大王国衰亡之际（约公元前627–586年），对象是被掳前后的犹大人与列国。作者耶利米旨在：警告百姓因背约敬拜偶像将面临巴比伦的审判，借哀歌与个人苦情表达神忧伤的心肠，并指向神将来赦免与复兴的计划，包括新约、弥赛亚国度与外邦列国的结局，呼召人在绝望中仍以信心仰望神的信实。

主要主题
审判与公义
耶利米宣告犹大因背约、拜偶像、行不义将面临巴比伦的审判（耶 4:5-31；21:1-14）。神的公义要求罪恶必须受到刑罚。
新约与更新的应许
在审判之中，神应许赐下新约，将律法写在心上，并赦免罪孽（耶 31:31-34）。这新约指向更彻底的救赎与内在的更新。
先知使命与受苦
耶利米蒙召作列国的先知（耶 1:5），却遭受拒绝、迫害与内心挣扎（耶 11:18-23；20:7-18），显示忠于神话语者所付的代价。
悔改与回转

盼望与复兴
在被掳的阴影下，神应许从北方救赎余民，归回故土，并有一位公义的苗裔兴起（耶 23:5-6；30:10-11；32:36-44）。
与基督的关联
耶利米书多处指向基督：(1) ‘公义的苗裔’耶 23:5-6，大卫的后裔要作公义的君王，新约引用此节指向耶稣（路 1:68-79）；(2) ‘新约’耶 31:31-34 由希伯来书 8-10 章应用在基督身上，祂以自己的血立了新约，使罪得赦免；(3) 耶利米本人被称为‘流泪的先知’，其受苦与内心挣扎预表基督的哀哭与被拒（路 19:41-44）；(4) 耶利米被扔在井中却蒙拯救（耶 38 章），预示基督死而复活。整卷书指向那位真正成就救赎、赐下新约心意的弥赛亚。

第19章
- 1.耶 和 華 如 此 說 ： 你 去 買 窯 匠 的 瓦 瓶 ， 又 帶 百 姓 中 的 長 老 和 祭 司 中 的 長 老 ，Thus said Jehovah, Go, and buy a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;
- 2.出 去 到 欣 嫩 子 谷 、 哈 珥 西 （ 就 是 瓦 片 的 意 思 ） 的 門 口 那 著 ， 宣 告 我 所 吩 咐 你 的 話 ，and go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee;
- 3.說 ： 猶 大 君 王 和 耶 路 撒 冷 的 居 民 哪 ， 當 聽 耶 和 華 的 話 。 萬 軍 之 耶 和 華 ─ 以 色 列 的 神 如 此 說 ： 我 必 使 災 禍 臨 到 這 地 方 ， 凡 聽 見 的 人 都 必 耳 鳴 ；and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.
- 4.因 為 他 們 和 他 們 列 祖 ， 並 猶 大 君 王 離 棄 我 ， 將 這 地 方 看 為 平 常 ， 在 這 裡 向 素 不 認 識 的 別 神 燒 香 ， 又 使 這 地 方 滿 了 無 辜 人 的 血 ，Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,
- 5.又 建 築 巴 力 的 邱 壇 ， 好 在 火 中 焚 燒 自 己 的 兒 子 ， 作 為 燔 祭 獻 給 巴 力 。 這 不 是 我 所 吩 咐 的 ， 不 是 我 所 提 說 的 ， 也 不 是 我 心 所 起 的 意 。and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
- 6.耶 和 華 說 ： 因 此 ， 日 子 將 到 ， 這 地 方 不 再 稱 為 陀 斐 特 和 欣 嫩 子 谷 ， 反 倒 稱 為 殺 戮 谷 。therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.
- 7.我 必 在 這 地 方 使 猶 大 和 耶 路 撒 冷 的 計 謀 落 空 ， 也 必 使 他 們 在 仇 敵 面 前 倒 於 刀 下 ， 並 尋 索 其 命 的 人 手 下 。 他 們 的 屍 首 ， 我 必 給 空 中 的 飛 鳥 和 地 上 的 野 獸 作 食 物 。And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.
- 8.我 必 使 這 城 令 人 驚 駭 嗤 笑 ； 凡 經 過 的 人 ， 必 因 這 城 所 遭 的 災 驚 駭 嗤 笑 。And I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.
- 9.我 必 使 他 們 在 圍 困 窘 迫 之 中 ， 就 是 仇 敵 和 尋 索 其 命 的 人 窘 迫 他 們 的 時 候 ， 各 人 吃 自 己 兒 女 的 肉 和 朋 友 的 肉 。And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.
- 10.你 要 在 同 去 的 人 眼 前 打 碎 那 瓶 ，Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,
- 11.對 他 們 說 ： 萬 軍 之 耶 和 華 如 此 說 ： 我 要 照 樣 打 碎 這 民 和 這 城 ， 正 如 人 打 碎 窯 匠 的 瓦 器 ， 以 致 不 能 再 囫 圇 。 並 且 人 要 在 陀 斐 特 葬 埋 屍 首 ， 甚 至 無 處 可 葬 。and shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.
- 12.耶 和 華 說 ： 我 必 向 這 地 方 和 其 中 的 居 民 如 此 行 ， 使 這 城 與 陀 斐 特 一 樣 。Thus will I do unto this place, saith Jehovah, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth:
- 13.耶 路 撒 冷 的 房 屋 和 猶 大 君 王 的 宮 殿 是 已 經 被 玷 污 的 ， 就 是 他 們 在 其 上 向 天 上 的 萬 象 燒 香 、 向 別 神 澆 奠 祭 的 宮 殿 房 屋 ， 都 必 與 陀 斐 特 一 樣 。and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.
- 14.耶 利 米 從 陀 斐 特 ─ 就 是 耶 和 華 差 他 去 說 預 言 的 地 方 ─ 回 來 ， 站 在 耶 和 華 殿 的 院 中 ， 對 眾 人 說 ：Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house, and said to all the people:
- 15.萬 軍 之 耶 和 華 ─ 以 色 列 的 神 如 此 說 ： 我 必 使 我 所 說 的 一 切 災 禍 臨 到 這 城 和 屬 城 的 一 切 城 邑 ， 因 為 他 們 硬 著 頸 項 不 聽 我 的 話 。Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.
