为什么写这卷书
耶利米书写于犹大王国衰亡之际（约公元前627–586年），对象是被掳前后的犹大人与列国。作者耶利米旨在：警告百姓因背约敬拜偶像将面临巴比伦的审判，借哀歌与个人苦情表达神忧伤的心肠，并指向神将来赦免与复兴的计划，包括新约、弥赛亚国度与外邦列国的结局，呼召人在绝望中仍以信心仰望神的信实。

主要主题
审判与公义
耶利米宣告犹大因背约、拜偶像、行不义将面临巴比伦的审判（耶 4:5-31；21:1-14）。神的公义要求罪恶必须受到刑罚。
新约与更新的应许
在审判之中，神应许赐下新约，将律法写在心上，并赦免罪孽（耶 31:31-34）。这新约指向更彻底的救赎与内在的更新。
先知使命与受苦
耶利米蒙召作列国的先知（耶 1:5），却遭受拒绝、迫害与内心挣扎（耶 11:18-23；20:7-18），显示忠于神话语者所付的代价。

耶利米书多处指向基督：(1) ‘公义的苗裔’耶 23:5-6，大卫的后裔要作公义的君王，新约引用此节指向耶稣（路 1:68-79）；(2) ‘新约’耶 31:31-34 由希伯来书 8-10 章应用在基督身上，祂以自己的血立了新约，使罪得赦免；(3) 耶利米本人被称为‘流泪的先知’，其受苦与内心挣扎预表基督的哀哭与被拒（路 19:41-44）；(4) 耶利米被扔在井中却蒙拯救（耶 38 章），预示基督死而复活。整卷书指向那位真正成就救赎、赐下新约心意的弥赛亚。

- 1.猶 大 王 西 底 家 第 九 年 十 月 ， 巴 比 倫 王 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 率 領 全 軍 來 圍 困 耶 路 撒 冷 。And it came to pass when Jerusalem was taken, (in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and besieged it;
- 2.西 底 家 十 一 年 四 月 初 九 日 ， 城 被 攻 破 。in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city,)

- 8.迦 勒 底 人 用 火 焚 燒 王 宮 和 百 姓 的 房 屋 ， 又 拆 毀 耶 路 撒 冷 的 城 牆 。And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.
- 9.那 時 ， 護 衛 長 尼 布 撒 拉 旦 將 城 裡 所 剩 下 的 百 姓 和 投 降 他 的 逃 民 ， 以 及 其 餘 的 民 都 擄 到 巴 比 倫 去 了 。Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the residue of the people that remained in the city, the deserters also that fell away to him, and the residue of the people that remained.

- 11.巴 比 倫 王 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 提 到 耶 利 米 ， 囑 咐 護 衛 長 尼 布 撒 拉 旦 說 ：Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,
- 12.你 領 他 去 ， 好 好 地 看 待 他 ， 切 不 可 害 他 ； 他 對 你 怎 麼 說 ， 你 就 向 他 怎 麼 行 。Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.
- 13.護 衛 長 尼 布 撒 拉 旦 和 尼 布 沙 斯 班 ─ 拉 撒 力 、 尼 甲 • 沙 利 薛 ─ 拉 墨 ， 並 巴 比 倫 王 的 一 切 官 長 ，So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushazban, Rab-saris, and Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon;
- 14.打 發 人 去 ， 將 耶 利 米 從 護 衛 兵 院 中 提 出 來 ， 交 與 沙 番 的 孫 子 亞 希 甘 的 兒 子 基 大 利 ， 帶 回 家 去 。 於 是 耶 利 米 住 在 民 中 。they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
- 15.耶 利 米 還 囚 在 護 衛 兵 院 中 的 時 候 ， 耶 和 華 的 話 臨 到 他 說 ：Now the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying,
- 16.你 去 告 訴 古 實 人 以 伯 • 米 勒 說 ， 萬 軍 之 耶 和 華 ─ 以 色 列 的 神 如 此 說 ： 我 說 降 禍 不 降 福 的 話 必 臨 到 這 城 ， 到 那 時 必 在 你 面 前 成 就 了 。Go, and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before thee in that day.
- 17.耶 和 華 說 ： 到 那 日 我 必 拯 救 你 ， 你 必 不 致 交 在 你 所 怕 的 人 手 中 。But I will deliver thee in that day, saith Jehovah; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.
- 18.我 定 要 搭 救 你 ， 你 不 致 倒 在 刀 下 ， 卻 要 以 自 己 的 命 為 掠 物 ， 因 你 倚 靠 我 。 這 是 耶 和 華 說 的 。For I will surely save thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee; because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith Jehovah.
