Éxodo 40: El tabernáculo es erigido y lleno de gloria

Moisés erige el tabernáculo, ordena sus utensilios, lo unge con el aceite santo, consagra a Aarón y sus hijos, y la gloria de Jehová llena la morada mientras la nube guía las jornadas de Israel.

  12. 12.Y llevarás a Aarón y a sus hijos a la puerta del tabernáculo de reunión, y los lavarás con agua.And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tent of meeting, and shalt wash them with water.
  13. 13.Y harás vestir a Aarón las vestiduras sagradas, y lo ungirás, y lo consagrarás, para que sea mi sacerdote.And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments; and thou shalt anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.
  14. 14.Después harás que se acerquen sus hijos, y les vestirás las túnicas;And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them;
  15. 15.y los ungirás, como ungiste a su padre, y serán mis sacerdotes, y su unción les servirá por sacerdocio perpetuo, por sus generaciones.and thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: and their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.

  18. 18.Moisés hizo levantar el tabernáculo, y asentó sus basas, y colocó sus tablas, y puso sus barras, e hizo alzar sus columnas.And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up its pillars.
  19. 19.Levantó la tienda sobre el tabernáculo, y puso la sobrecubierta encima del mismo, como Jehová había mandado a Moisés.And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as Jehovah commanded Moses.

Qué significa este pasaje

Éxodo 40 se divide en dos movimientos: las instrucciones divinas para montar el tabernáculo (vv. 1–16) y la ejecución cuidadosa de esas órdenes por parte de Moisés (vv. 17–33). La repetición de la frase 'como Jehová le había mandado a Moisés' a lo largo de la segunda mitad enfatiza la obediencia: todo artículo —el arca, la mesa, el candelabro, los altares, la fuente y el atrio— se coloca exactamente donde lo prescribieron los capítulos anteriores de Éxodo. El capítulo cierra así el largo arco literario que comenzó con las instrucciones en los capítulos 25–31.

La sección central (vv. 9–15) se enfoca en la santificación mediante el aceite de la unción. Tanto los objetos como los sacerdotes son consagrados, y los hijos de Aarón reciben la misma unción que su padre, estableciendo 'un sacerdocio perpetuo por sus generaciones' (v. 15). Este es el único lugar en Éxodo donde el sacerdocio es formalmente instalado, y vincula la santidad del tabernáculo directamente con la línea de quienes sirven ante él.

El evento culminante llega en los versículos 34–38: la nube cubre el tabernáculo de reunión y la gloria de Jehová llena el tabernáculo, de modo que el mismo Moisés no puede entrar. Contexto

Éxodo 40 cierra el libro. Las instrucciones del tabernáculo dadas en los capítulos 25–31 se llevan a cabo ahora, con los detalles arquitectónicos de los capítulos 36–39 reunidos en una única narrativa secuencial de ensamblaje y unción. La fecha dada en el versículo 17 ('el primer mes del segundo año, el primer día del mes') ancla este momento al comienzo del segundo año después del éxodo, tras el campamento en Sinaí (Éxodo 19:1). El capítulo forma un marco literario con la visión anterior de la gloria de Dios reposando sobre Sinaí (Éxodo 24:15–18), pero ahora la gloria desciende sobre el tabernáculo mismo.

Los versículos 36–38 transforman el tabernáculo de una estructura estática en el eje de la jornada de Israel por el desierto. La nube de día y el fuego de noche, que antes habían ido delante del pueblo en el camino, ahora residen sobre el tabernáculo. La narrativa termina sin que Israel entre en la tierra, dejando el papel móvil del tabernáculo para ser desarrollado en Números. Referencias cruzadas como Números 9:15 y Salmos 78:14 retoman precisamente esta imaginería de nube y fuego, mientras que 1 Reyes 8:11 y 2 Crónicas 7:2 hacen eco del momento en que la gloria llena el templo de manera que excluye a los sacerdotes de entrar.
