Salmos 119 — El amor del salmo más largo por la ley
Salmos 119 es un poema acróstico alfabético en el que cada una de sus 22 estrofas se abre con una letra sucesiva del alfabeto hebreo, y dentro de cada estrofa el salmista pide entendimiento, declara obediencia y suplica liberación de la aflicción y de los soberbios.
Escritura
- 1.Bienaventurados los perfectos de camino, Los que andan en la ley de Jehová.ALEPH. Blessed are they that are perfect in the way, Who walk in the law of Jehovah.
- 2.Bienaventurados los que guardan sus testimonios, Y con todo el corazón le buscan;Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, That seek him with the whole heart.
- 3.Pues no hacen iniquidad Los que andan en sus caminos.Yea, they do no unrighteousness; They walk in his ways.
- 4.Tú encargaste Que sean muy guardados tus mandamientos.Thou hast commanded us thy precepts, That we should observe them diligently.
- 5.¡Ojalá fuesen ordenados mis caminos Para guardar tus estatutos!Oh that my ways were established To observe thy statutes!
- 6.Entonces no sería yo avergonzado, Cuando atendiese a todos tus mandamientos.Then shall I not be put to shame, When I have respect unto all thy commandments.
- 7.Te alabaré con rectitud de corazón Cuando aprendiere tus justos juicios.I will give thanks unto thee with uprightness of heart, When I learn thy righteous judgments.
- 8.Tus estatutos guardaré; No me dejes enteramente.I will observe thy statutes: Oh forsake me not utterly.
- 9.¿Con qué limpiará el joven su camino? Con guardar tu palabra.BETH. Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
- 10.Con todo mi corazón te he buscado; No me dejes desviarme de tus mandamientos.With my whole heart have I sought thee: Oh let me not wander from thy commandments.
- 11.En mi corazón he guardado tus dichos, Para no pecar contra ti.Thy word have I laid up in my heart, That I might not sin against thee.
- 12.Bendito tú, oh Jehová; Enséñame tus estatutos.Blessed art thou, O Jehovah: Teach me thy statutes.
- 13.Con mis labios he contado Todos los juicios de tu boca.With my lips have I declared All the ordinances of thy mouth.
- 14.Me he gozado en el camino de tus testimonios Más que de toda riqueza.I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, As much as in all riches.
- 15.En tus mandamientos meditaré; Consideraré tus caminos.I will meditate on thy precepts, And have respect unto thy ways.
- 16.Me regocijaré en tus estatutos; No me olvidaré de tus palabras.I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
- 17.Haz bien a tu siervo; que viva, Y guarde tu palabra.GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live; So will I observe thy word.
- 18.Abre mis ojos, y miraré Las maravillas de tu ley.Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold Wondrous things out of thy law.
- 19.Forastero soy yo en la tierra; No encubras de mí tus mandamientos.I am a sojourner in the earth: Hide not thy commandments from me.
- 20.Quebrantada está mi alma de desear Tus juicios en todo tiempo.My soul breaketh for the longing That it hath unto thine ordinances at all times.
- 21.Reprendiste a los soberbios, los malditos, Que se desvían de tus mandamientos.Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, That do wander from thy commandments.
- 22.Aparta de mí el oprobio y el menosprecio, Porque tus testimonios he guardado.Take away from me reproach and contempt; For I have kept thy testimonies.
- 23.Príncipes también se sentaron y hablaron contra mí; Mas tu siervo meditaba en tus estatutos,Princes also sat and talked against me; But thy servant did meditate on thy statutes.
- 24.Pues tus testimonios son mis delicias Y mis consejeros.Thy testimonies also are my delight And my counsellors.
- 25.Abatida hasta el polvo está mi alma; Vivifícame según tu palabra.DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: Quicken thou me according to thy word.
- 26.Te he manifestado mis caminos, y me has respondido; Enséñame tus estatutos.I declared my ways, and thou answeredst me: Teach me thy statutes.
- 27.Hazme entender el camino de tus mandamientos, Para que medite en tus maravillas.Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: So shall I meditate on thy wondrous works.
- 28.Se deshace mi alma de ansiedad; Susténtame según tu palabra.My soul melteth for heaviness: Strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
- 29.Aparta de mí el camino de la mentira, Y en tu misericordia concédeme tu ley.Remove from me the way of falsehood; And grant me thy law graciously.
- 30.Escogí el camino de la verdad; He puesto tus juicios delante de mí.I have chosen the way of faithfulness: Thine ordinances have I set before me.
- 31.Me he apegado a tus testimonios; Oh Jehová, no me avergüences.I cleave unto thy testimonies: O Jehovah, put me not to shame.
- 32.Por el camino de tus mandamientos correré, Cuando ensanches mi corazón.I will run the way of thy commandments, When thou shalt enlarge my heart.
- 33.Enséñame, oh Jehová, el camino de tus estatutos, Y lo guardaré hasta el fin.HE. Teach me, O Jehovah, the way of thy statutes; And I shall keep it unto the end.
- 34.Dame entendimiento, y guardaré tu ley, Y la cumpliré de todo corazón.Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; Yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
- 35.Guíame por la senda de tus mandamientos, Porque en ella tengo mi voluntad.Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; For therein do I delight.
- 36.Inclina mi corazón a tus testimonios, Y no a la avaricia.Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, And not to covetousness.
- 37.Aparta mis ojos, que no vean la vanidad; Avívame en tu camino.Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity, And quicken me in thy ways.
- 38.Confirma tu palabra a tu siervo, Que te teme.Confirm unto thy servant thy word, Which is in order unto the fear of thee.
- 39.Quita de mí el oprobio que he temido, Porque buenos son tus juicios.Turn away my reproach whereof I am afraid; For thine ordinances are good.
- 40.He aquí yo he anhelado tus mandamientos; Vivifícame en tu justicia.Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: Quicken me in thy righteousness.
- 41.Venga a mí tu misericordia, oh Jehová; Tu salvación, conforme a tu dicho.VAV. Let thy lovingkindnesses also come unto me, O Jehovah, Even thy salvation, according to thy word.
- 42.Y daré por respuesta a mi avergonzador, Que en tu palabra he confiado.So shall I have an answer for him that reproacheth me; For I trust in thy word.
- 43.No quites de mi boca en ningún tiempo la palabra de verdad, Porque en tus juicios espero.And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; For I have hoped in thine ordinances.
- 44.Guardaré tu ley siempre, Para siempre y eternamente.So shall I observe thy law continually For ever and ever.
- 45.Y andaré en libertad, Porque busqué tus mandamientos.And I shall walk at liberty; For I have sought thy precepts.
- 46.Hablaré de tus testimonios delante de los reyes, Y no me avergonzaré;I will also speak of thy testimonies before kings, And shall not be put to shame.
- 47.Y me regocijaré en tus mandamientos, Los cuales he amado.And I will delight myself in thy commandments, Which I have loved.
- 48.Alzaré asimismo mis manos a tus mandamientos que amé, Y meditaré en tus estatutos.I will lift up my hands also unto thy commandments, which I have loved; And I will meditate on thy statutes.
- 49.Acuérdate de la palabra dada a tu siervo, En la cual me has hecho esperar.ZAYIN. Remember the word unto thy servant, Because thou hast made me to hope.
- 50.Ella es mi consuelo en mi aflicción, Porque tu dicho me ha vivificado.This is my comfort in my affliction; For thy word hath quickened me.
- 51.Los soberbios se burlaron mucho de mí, Mas no me he apartado de tu ley.The proud have had me greatly in derision: Yet have I not swerved from thy law.
- 52.Me acordé, oh Jehová, de tus juicios antiguos, Y me consolé.I have remembered thine ordinances of old, O Jehovah, And have comforted myself.
- 53.Horror se apoderó de mí a causa de los inicuos Que dejan tu ley.Hot indignation hath taken hold upon me, Because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
- 54.Cánticos fueron para mí tus estatutos En la casa en donde fui extranjero.Thy statutes have been my songs In the house of my pilgrimage.
- 55.Me acordé en la noche de tu nombre, oh Jehová, Y guardé tu ley.I have remembered thy name, O Jehovah, in the night, And have observed thy law.
- 56.Estas bendiciones tuve Porque guardé tus mandamientos.This I have had, Because I have kept thy precepts.
- 57.Mi porción es Jehová; He dicho que guardaré tus palabras.HHETH. Jehovah is my portion: I have said that I would observe thy words.
- 58.Tu presencia supliqué de todo corazón; Ten misericordia de mí según tu palabra.I entreated thy favor with my whole heart: Be merciful unto me according to thy word.
- 59.Consideré mis caminos, Y volví mis pies a tus testimonios.I thought on my ways, And turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
- 60.Me apresuré y no me retardé En guardar tus mandamientos.I made haste, and delayed not, To observe thy commandments.
- 61.Compañías de impíos me han rodeado, Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley.The cords of the wicked have wrapped me round; But I have not forgotten thy law.
- 62.A medianoche me levanto para alabarte Por tus justos juicios.At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee Because of thy righteous ordinances.
- 63.Compañero soy yo de todos los que te temen Y guardan tus mandamientos.I am a companion of all them that fear thee, And of them that observe thy precepts.
- 64.De tu misericordia, oh Jehová, está llena la tierra; Enséñame tus estatutos.The earth, O Jehovah, is full of thy lovingkindness: Teach me thy statutes.
- 65.Bien has hecho con tu siervo, Oh Jehová, conforme a tu palabra.TETH. Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Jehovah, according unto thy word.
- 66.Enséñame buen sentido y sabiduría, Porque tus mandamientos he creído.Teach me good judgment and knowledge; For I have believed in thy commandments.
- 67.Antes que fuera yo humillado, descarriado andaba; Mas ahora guardo tu palabra.Before I was afflicted I went astray; But now I observe thy word.
- 68.Bueno eres tú, y bienhechor; Enséñame tus estatutos.Thou art good, and doest good; Teach me thy statutes.
- 69.Contra mí forjaron mentira los soberbios, Mas yo guardaré de todo corazón tus mandamientos.The proud have forged a lie against me: With my whole heart will I keep thy precepts.
- 70.Se engrosó el corazón de ellos como sebo, Mas yo en tu ley me he regocijado.Their heart is as fat as grease; But I delight in thy law.
- 71.Bueno me es haber sido humillado, Para que aprenda tus estatutos.It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn thy statutes.
- 72.Mejor me es la ley de tu boca Que millares de oro y plata.The law of thy mouth is better unto me Than thousands of gold and silver.
- 73.Tus manos me hicieron y me formaron; Hazme entender, y aprenderé tus mandamientos.YODH. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: Give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
- 74.Los que te temen me verán, y se alegrarán, Porque en tu palabra he esperado.They that fear thee shall see me and be glad, Because I have hoped in thy word.
- 75.Conozco, oh Jehová, que tus juicios son justos, Y que conforme a tu fidelidad me afligiste.I know, O Jehovah, that thy judgments are righteous, And that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.
- 76.Sea ahora tu misericordia para consolarme, Conforme a lo que has dicho a tu siervo.Let, I pray thee, thy lovingkindness be for my comfort, According to thy word unto thy servant.
- 77.Vengan a mí tus misericordias, para que viva, Porque tu ley es mi delicia.Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live; For thy law is my delight.
- 78.Sean avergonzados los soberbios, porque sin causa me han calumniado; Pero yo meditaré en tus mandamientos.Let the proud be put to shame; For they have overthrown me wrongfully: But I will meditate on thy precepts.
- 79.Vuélvanse a mí los que te temen Y conocen tus testimonios.Let those that fear thee turn unto me; And they shall know thy testimonies.
- 80.Sea mi corazón íntegro en tus estatutos, Para que no sea yo avergonzado.Let my heart be perfect in thy statutes, That I be not put to shame.
- 81.Desfallece mi alma por tu salvación, Mas espero en tu palabra.KAPH. My soul fainteth for thy salvation; But I hope in thy word.
- 82.Desfallecieron mis ojos por tu palabra, Diciendo: ¿Cuándo me consolarás?Mine eyes fail for thy word, While I say, When wilt thou comfort me?
- 83.Porque estoy como el odre al humo; Pero no he olvidado tus estatutos.For I am become like a wine-skin in the smoke; Yet do I not forget thy statutes.
- 84.¿Cuántos son los días de tu siervo? ¿Cuándo harás juicio contra los que me persiguen?How many are the days of thy servant? When wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute me?
- 85.Los soberbios me han cavado hoyos; Mas no proceden según tu ley.The proud have digged pits for me, Who are not according to thy law.
- 86.Todos tus mandamientos son verdad; Sin causa me persiguen; ayúdame.All thy commandments are faithful: They persecute me wrongfully; Help thou me.
- 87.Casi me han echado por tierra, Pero no he dejado tus mandamientos.They had almost consumed me upon earth; But I forsook not thy precepts.
- 88.Vivifícame conforme a tu misericordia, Y guardaré los testimonios de tu boca.Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; So shall I observe the testimony of thy mouth.
- 89.Para siempre, oh Jehová, Permanece tu palabra en los cielos.LAMEDH. For ever, O Jehovah, Thy word is settled in heaven.
- 90.De generación en generación es tu fidelidad; Tú afirmaste la tierra, y subsiste.Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: Thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
- 91.Por tu ordenación subsisten todas las cosas hasta hoy, Pues todas ellas te sirven.They abide this day according to thine ordinances; For all things are thy servants.
- 92.Si tu ley no hubiese sido mi delicia, Ya en mi aflicción hubiera perecido.Unless thy law had been my delight, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
- 93.Nunca jamás me olvidaré de tus mandamientos, Porque con ellos me has vivificado.I will never forget thy precepts; For with them thou hast quickened me.
- 94.Tuyo soy yo, sálvame, Porque he buscado tus mandamientos.I am thine, save me; For I have sought thy precepts.
- 95.Los impíos me han aguardado para destruirme; Mas yo consideraré tus testimonios.The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me; But I will consider thy testimonies.
- 96.A toda perfección he visto fin; Amplio sobremanera es tu mandamiento.I have seen an end of all perfection; But thy commandment is exceeding broad.
- 97.¡Oh, cuánto amo yo tu ley! Todo el día es ella mi meditación.MEM. Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day.
- 98.Me has hecho más sabio que mis enemigos con tus mandamientos, Porque siempre están conmigo.Thy commandments make me wiser than mine enemies; For they are ever with me.
- 99.Más que todos mis enseñadores he entendido, Porque tus testimonios son mi meditación.I have more understanding than all my teachers; For thy testimonies are my meditation.
- 100.Más que los viejos he entendido, Porque he guardado tus mandamientos;I understand more than the aged, Because I have kept thy precepts.
- 101.De todo mal camino contuve mis pies, Para guardar tu palabra.I have refrained my feet from every evil way, That I might observe thy word.
- 102.No me aparté de tus juicios, Porque tú me enseñaste.I have not turned aside from thine ordinances; For thou hast taught me.
- 103.¡Cuán dulces son a mi paladar tus palabras! Más que la miel a mi boca.How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
- 104.De tus mandamientos he adquirido inteligencia; Por tanto, he aborrecido todo camino de mentira.Through thy precepts I get understanding: Therefore I hate every false way.
- 105.Lámpara es a mis pies tu palabra, Y lumbrera a mi camino.NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And light unto my path.
- 106.Juré y ratifiqué Que guardaré tus justos juicios.I have sworn, and have confirmed it, That I will observe thy righteous ordinances.
- 107.Afligido estoy en gran manera; Vivifícame, oh Jehová, conforme a tu palabra.I am afflicted very much: Quicken me, O Jehovah, according unto thy word.
- 108.Te ruego, oh Jehová, que te sean agradables los sacrificios voluntarios de mi boca, Y me enseñes tus juicios.Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill-offerings of my mouth, O Jehovah, And teach me thine ordinances.
- 109.Mi vida está de continuo en peligro, Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley.My soul is continually in my hand; Yet do I not forget thy law.
- 110.Me pusieron lazo los impíos, Pero yo no me desvié de tus mandamientos.The wicked have laid a snare for me; Yet have I not gone astray from thy precepts.
- 111.Por heredad he tomado tus testimonios para siempre, Porque son el gozo de mi corazón.Thy testimonies have I taken as a heritage for ever; For they are the rejoicing of my heart.
- 112.Mi corazón incliné a cumplir tus estatutos De continuo, hasta el fin.I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes For ever, even unto the end.
- 113.Aborrezco a los hombres hipócritas; Mas amo tu ley.SAMEKH. I hate them that are of a double mind; But thy law do I love.
- 114.Mi escondedero y mi escudo eres tú; En tu palabra he esperado.Thou art my hiding-place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
- 115.Apartaos de mí, malignos, Pues yo guardaré los mandamientos de mi Dios.Depart from me, ye evil-doers, That I may keep the commandments of my God.
- 116.Susténtame conforme a tu palabra, y viviré; Y no quede yo avergonzado de mi esperanza.Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live; And let me not be ashamed of my hope.
- 117.Sosténme, y seré salvo, Y me regocijaré siempre en tus estatutos.Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe, And shall have respect unto thy statutes continually.
- 118.Hollaste a todos los que se desvían de tus estatutos, Porque su astucia es falsedad.Thou hast set at nought all them that err from thy statutes; For their deceit is falsehood.
- 119.Como escorias hiciste consumir a todos los impíos de la tierra; Por tanto, yo he amado tus testimonios.Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: Therefore I love thy testimonies.
- 120.Mi carne se ha estremecido por temor de ti, Y de tus juicios tengo miedo.My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; And I am afraid of thy judgments.
- 121.Juicio y justicia he hecho; No me abandones a mis opresores.AYIN. I have done justice and righteousness: Leave me not to mine oppressors.
- 122.Afianza a tu siervo para bien; No permitas que los soberbios me opriman.Be surety for thy servant for good: Let not the proud oppress me.
- 123.Mis ojos desfallecieron por tu salvación, Y por la palabra de tu justicia.Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, And for thy righteous word.
- 124.Haz con tu siervo según tu misericordia, Y enséñame tus estatutos.Deal with thy servant according unto thy lovingkindness, And teach me thy statutes.
- 125.Tu siervo soy yo, dame entendimiento Para conocer tus testimonios.I am thy servant; Give me understanding, That I may know thy testimonies.
- 126.Tiempo es de actuar, oh Jehová, Porque han invalidado tu ley.It is time for Jehovah to work; For they have made void thy law.
- 127.Por eso he amado tus mandamientos Más que el oro, y más que oro muy puro.Therefore I love thy commandments Above gold, yea, above fine gold.
- 128.Por eso estimé rectos todos tus mandamientos sobre todas las cosas, Y aborrecí todo camino de mentira.Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; And I hate every false way.
- 129.Maravillosos son tus testimonios; Por tanto, los ha guardado mi alma.PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful; Therefore doth my soul keep them.
- 130.La exposición de tus palabras alumbra; Hace entender a los simples.The opening of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.
- 131.Mi boca abrí y suspiré, Porque deseaba tus mandamientos.I opened wide my mouth, and panted; For I longed for thy commandments.
- 132.Mírame, y ten misericordia de mí, Como acostumbras con los que aman tu nombre.Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me, As thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.
- 133.Ordena mis pasos con tu palabra, Y ninguna iniquidad se enseñoree de mí.Establish my footsteps in thy word; And let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
- 134.Líbrame de la violencia de los hombres, Y guardaré tus mandamientos.Redeem me from the oppression of man: So will I observe thy precepts.
- 135.Haz que tu rostro resplandezca sobre tu siervo, Y enséñame tus estatutos.Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; And teach me thy statutes.
- 136.Ríos de agua descendieron de mis ojos, Porque no guardaban tu ley.Streams of water run down mine eyes, Because they observe not thy law.
- 137.Justo eres tú, oh Jehová, Y rectos tus juicios.TSADHE. Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, And upright are thy judgments.
- 138.Tus testimonios, que has recomendado, Son rectos y muy fieles.Thou hast commanded thy testimonies in righteousness And very faithfulness.
- 139.Mi celo me ha consumido, Porque mis enemigos se olvidaron de tus palabras.My zeal hath consumed me, Because mine adversaries have forgotten thy words.
- 140.Sumamente pura es tu palabra, Y la ama tu siervo.Thy word is very pure; Therefore thy servant loveth it.
- 141.Pequeño soy yo, y desechado, Mas no me he olvidado de tus mandamientos.I am small and despised; Yet do I not forget thy precepts.
- 142.Tu justicia es justicia eterna, Y tu ley la verdad.Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And thy law is truth.
- 143.Aflicción y angustia se han apoderado de mí, Mas tus mandamientos fueron mi delicia.Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me; Yet thy commandments are my delight.
- 144.Justicia eterna son tus testimonios; Dame entendimiento, y viviré.Thy testimonies are righteous for ever: Give me understanding, and I shall live.
- 145.Clamé con todo mi corazón; respóndeme, Jehová, Y guardaré tus estatutos.QOPH. I have called with my whole heart; Answer me, O Jehovah: I will keep thy statutes.
- 146.A ti clamé; sálvame, Y guardaré tus testimonios.I have called unto thee; Save me, And I shall observe thy testimonies.
- 147.Me anticipé al alba, y clamé; Esperé en tu palabra.I anticipated the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy words.
- 148.Se anticiparon mis ojos a las vigilias de la noche, Para meditar en tus mandatos.Mine eyes anticipated the night-watches, That I might meditate on thy word.
- 149.Oye mi voz conforme a tu misericordia; Oh Jehová, vivifícame conforme a tu juicio.Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: Quicken me, O Jehovah, according to thine ordinances.
- 150.Se acercaron a la maldad los que me persiguen; Se alejaron de tu ley.They draw nigh that follow after wickedness; They are far from thy law.
- 151.Cercano estás tú, oh Jehová, Y todos tus mandamientos son verdad.Thou art nigh, O Jehovah; And all thy commandments are truth.
- 152.Hace ya mucho que he entendido tus testimonios, Que para siempre los has establecido.Of old have I known from thy testimonies, That thou hast founded them for ever.
- 153.Mira mi aflicción, y líbrame, Porque de tu ley no me he olvidado.RESH. Consider mine affliction, and deliver me; For I do not forget thy law.
- 154.Defiende mi causa, y redímeme; Vivifícame con tu palabra.Plead thou my cause, and redeem me: Quicken me according to thy word.
- 155.Lejos está de los impíos la salvación, Porque no buscan tus estatutos.Salvation is far from the wicked; For they seek not thy statutes.
- 156.Muchas son tus misericordias, oh Jehová; Vivifícame conforme a tus juicios.Great are thy tender mercies, O Jehovah: Quicken me according to thine ordinances.
- 157.Muchos son mis perseguidores y mis enemigos, Mas de tus testimonios no me he apartado.Many are my persecutors and mine adversaries; Yet have I not swerved from thy testimonies.
- 158.Veía a los prevaricadores, y me disgustaba, Porque no guardaban tus palabras.I beheld the treacherous, and was grieved, Because they observe not thy word.

Salmos 119 está organizado como un acróstico: cada una de sus 22 estrofas está encabezada por una letra sucesiva del alfabeto hebreo (ALEPH, BETH, GIMEL, DALETH, HE, VAV, ZAYIN, HHETH, TETH, YODH, KAPH, LAMEDH, MEM, NUN, SAMEKH, AYIN, PE, TSADHE, QOPH, RESH, SHIN, TAV), y dentro de cada estrofa de ocho versículos aparece el mismo conjunto recurrente de temas. El lector está llamado a recorrer cada letra, de modo que el vocabulario de devoción a la palabra se ensaya por completo, sin que se argumente una sola vez.
La situación del salmista es de aflicción bajo escrutinio hostil. Se describe a sí mismo como forastero, como odre ennegrecido por el humo, despreciado y rodeado de perseguidores que cavan fosas y tienden trampas (versículos 19, 83, 85, 110, 141). Frente a esta presión, el orante pide reiteradamente tres cosas: que Dios le enseñe sus estatutos (versículos 12, 26, 33, 64, 68, 124, 135), que Dios le 'vivifique' o reanime conforme a la palabra (versículos 25, 28, 37, 40, 88, 107, 149, 154, 156, 159), y que él mismo sea capacitado para guardar, deleitarse y no olvidar los preceptos (versículos 16, 44, 60, 87, 93, 109, 141, 167).

Contexto
El capítulo se lee como una oración sostenida más que como una narrativa, y la nota curatorial suministrada clasifica Salmos 119 como parte del material complementario más allá de los capítulos centrales P0/P1. El texto mismo aporta todo el contexto necesario: el orante solo se identifica por su postura ante la palabra (versículo 57: 'Jehová es mi porción'), y no hay trama fuera del movimiento entre aflicción, petición y renovado propósito de obedecer.
Los enemigos recurrentes nombrados son 'los soberbios', 'los impíos' y los 'príncipes' que reprochan, persiguen y cavan fosas (versículos 21, 51, 53, 69, 78, 85, 161).
